Accreditation

The University of Florida (UF) is a major, public, comprehensive, land-grant, research university. The state’s oldest and most comprehensive university, UF is among the nation’s most academically diverse public universities. UF has a long history of established programs in international education, research and service. It is one of only 17 public, land-grant universities that belong to the Association of American Universities. The Association of American Universities is a nonprofit association of 61 U.S. and two Canadian preeminent public and private research universities. Founded in 1900, the AAU focuses on national and institutional issues that are important to research-intensive universities, including funding for research, research and education policy, and graduate and undergraduate education.

The University of Florida is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

The on-campus master’s planning program in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning in UF’s College of Design, Construction and Planning is accredited by the Planning Accreditation Board (PAB). The PAB accredits university programs in North America leading to bachelors and masters degrees in planning. The accreditation process is based on standards approved by the PAB and its sponsoring organizations: the American Planning Association (APA); the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) (the professional planners’ institute within the American Planning Association); and the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP). Once the on-line program is underway and meets the PAB’s five (5) preconditions for accreditation, UF’s Department of Urban and Regional Planning will seek accreditation for the on-line program. This is expected to occure before the first graduates of the MAURP program earn their degree.
